Janusz Dolny

Janusz Dolny (born December 3, 1927 in Kuryłówka , † April 16, 2008 in Krakow ) was a Polish pianist and music teacher .

Dolny studied piano with Jan Hoffman from 1947 to 1955 at the Kraków Music Academy . He then taught there as an associate professor for piano. From 1981 to 1987 he was dean of the instrumental department, from 1987 to 1990 head of the piano department. Among his students is the piano soloist and chamber musician Mariusz Sielski .

In 1955 he founded a piano duo with Janina Baster , which performed worldwide and gave a concert for two pianos for the first time in the history of the Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój. In 1956 he won first prize in the piano duo category at the International Viotti Competition in Vercelli and the special prize of the Max Egger Foundation . Dolny was a participant in many music festivals, such as the Berlin Festival (1958), the Wiener Festwochen (1959), the Warsaw Autumn (1959), the Wroclaw Chamber Music Festival (1969) and the Bydgoszcz Music Festival (1971).
