The Japan Spaceguard Association (JSGA) ( Japanese 日本 ス ペ ー ス ガ ー ド 協会 , nihon supēsugādo kyōkai ) is a Japanese non-profit organization based in Tokyo . It was founded on October 20, 1996 and, similar to The Spaceguard Foundation, aims to protect the earth from collisions with near-earth objects by studying and observing these objects and classifying the risk of impact.
For this purpose, the organization operates the Bisei Spaceguard Center-BATTeRS , whose 100 cm Cassegrain telescope is also used to track down and track space debris.
