Jari Mänenpää (born December 23, 1977 in Finland ) is a singer , guitarist and founder of the melodic death metal band Wintersun . From 1996 to 2004 he was also the singer and guitarist of the Viking and folk metal band Ensiferum .

biography

Jari Mänenpää is the founder of the band Wintersun , in which he sings and plays the guitar. On the debut album Wintersun he also played synthesizers and electric bass ; he has formed a live band to perform. Before joining Wintersun, he was a member of the Viking metal band Ensiferum , which he joined in 1996 after leaving his previous band Immemorial . In the beginning he had only planned Wintersun as a side project for Ensiferum, but he left the band in January 2004 because the recording times in the studio collided with those of an Ensiferum tour . In 1997 he was drafted into the Finnish military. In an interview, he said he did not enjoy it and was suffering from tuberculosis at the time , which is why he was hospitalized for several months and had parts of his lungs surgically removed. He was also a member of the symphonic black metal band ArthemesiA .

Equipment

Guitars

At Ensiferum he played a DXMG Dinky , a guitar by Jackson in Transparent Green. For the recordings of the first Wintersun album he used the Jackson and in addition a Tokai Telecaster (copy of a Fender guitar ), which is quite untypical for metal , in order to have a "dirty western sound" in some songs. Live he also frequently uses the Paul Gilbert PGM 301 from Ibanez . For the second album Time he mainly wants to use an Ibanez Jem ( Steve Vai signature guitar).

amplifier

For the rhythm guitars comes as amplifiers of the (Amp) Triaxis preamp from Mesa / Boogie as a preamplifier for use, he on the Simul-Class 2:90 power amp ( amplifier ) of Mesa / Boogie and a Mesa / Boogie Cabinet connected Has. Nothing is known about the equipment used for the lead guitar .
