Jaromír Nohavica (born June 7, 1953 in Ostrava ) is a Czech songwriter .

Live and act

Nohavica wrote songs for Czech singers at the beginning of his career. In 1982 friends persuaded him to perform his own songs and he became one of the most popular performers on the Czech music scene. Nohavica plays guitar and accordion. He wrote over 400 songs. In addition to his own texts, he has translated songs by Leonard Cohen , Bulat Okudschawa , Boris Vian and Wladimir Vysotsky into Czech. In 2002 the fictional documentary The Year of the Devil was made , which has become one of the most popular Czech films of recent years.

Jaromír Nohavica is married and has two children.

The asteroid (6539) Nohavica was named after him on December 8, 1998.
