Jarrell is a City of Williamson County in the US state of Texas in the United States . In 2010 the population was 987 people.

geography

The distance to the northeastern city of Temple is around 40 kilometers. Austin is 60 kilometers southwest . Interstate 35 freeway runs right through Jarrell.

history

The city is named after the settler OD Jarrell who founded the city in 1909. After a railway line ran through the village, the population grew to over 500 people and agricultural businesses developed in which cotton and wheat were grown and in which cattle was raised. During the Great Depression and after the railway connection was closed, the population fell to less than 200 people. With the establishment of new business areas, the population grew slowly but steadily up to almost 1000 people.

Jarrell tornado

May 27, 1997 Jarrell was hit by a major disaster, when a tornado stage F5. , the Jarrell tornado devastated large parts of the city and 27 people lost their lives. Today there is hardly anything left of the destruction that occurred back then.
