Jashar Pasha Mosque
The Jashar Pasha Mosque ( Albanian Xhamia e Jashar Pashës ) is located in the historical center of the Kosovar capital Pristina on Nazim Gafurri Street . It is one of the most important sights in the city.
Building history
According to the inscription inside, the mosque was built on May 17, 1834 by Yashār Mehmet Pāshā, a citizen of the city of Pristina, who was the Ottoman governor of Skopje in 1842 .
Structure and equipment
The building consists of a portico and a prayer room. The original portico was destroyed when the road was widened and replaced by a new wooden porch. The hall is clad in plaster and decorated with arabesques . The prayer niche ( mihrab ) has a stalactite roof, above it is a sculpture with the seal of King Solomon and the tughra of Sultan Mahmud II. The original iron lattice windows are preserved, the windows are decorated with ornamental flower patterns. The roof dome is covered with lead.
