Jason Johnson (born February 19, 1977 ) is a former American - Austrian basketball player .

career

The 2.02 meter tall wing and inside player was a member of the Tennessee State University team between 1995 and 1999 . For this , Johnson from Dyersburg played a total of 111 games on the field and scored an average of 13.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per encounter. With his total number of points scored (1494) Johnson finished ninth when he left in 1999 in the Tennessee State University's list of all-time basket hunters.

Johnson switched to professional life and played for the Finnish club Korihait in the 1999/2000 season , and in 2000 he moved to the Oberwart Gunners in the Austrian Bundesliga. From then on he played continuously in Oberwart until his retirement as a professional player in 2016 . There he met his future wife, and in 2004 Johnson took on Austrian citizenship. In 2011 and 2016 he became national champion with the team, and in his time in Oberwart he was runner-up four times (2005, 2007, 2008, 2013) and was the winner of the cup competition in 2005 and 2016. He was considered a "model professional" and was team captain in Oberwart for years. In addition to his career as a professional basketball player, Johnson completed an apprenticeship as an academic leisure educator at the Burgenland University of Education in Eisenstadt , which he completed in 2014. After the end of his time as a professional basketball player in Austria, he worked as a youth pedagogue, sports teacher and as a trainer in the junior division of the Oberwart. In March 2018, he stepped in as an assistant coach for the Oberwart Bundesliga team. After the end of the 2017/18 season, he resigned in order to fully devote himself to his work as a teacher.
