Uudenkaupungin Urheilijat Korihait (short: UU-Korihait or just Korihait ) is a Finnish basketball club from Uusikaupunki .

history

In 1974 a basketball department was set up in the club, which was founded in 1898, after the city had experienced considerable growth with the settlement of the Valmet Automotive plants. Already in 1981 the promotion to the top national league succeeded Korisliiga , in which one soon established itself. In 1986 and 1988 they won the first two national titles with the cup wins and at the end of the decade they won the Finnish championship for the first time in 1990. After the runner-up in 1995 and financial problems that threatened the existence of the club, the best players left the club alongside the native Canadian coach Gordon Herbert , who had previously been a player in the club since 1991. As a result, they said goodbye to the national top and remained in the following years, except for the 2000/01 season, in which they reached fifth place, subscribed to the lower ranks of the Korisliiga. In the 2002/03 season they even played second class, but managed to get promoted again immediately. Best placement after the resurgence in 2003 was fourth place in the 2010/11 season, in which they were eliminated in the championship play-offs in the semi-final series against the eventual titleholder Tampereen Pyrintö .
