Jason Lowndes (born December 14, 1994 in Kalgoorlie , † December 22, 2017 in Bendigo , Victoria ) was an Australian cyclist .

Athletic career

For the 2015 season he joined the Canadian team Garneau-Québecor . In June 2015 he won the junior ranking of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay and reached the stage two and three respectively on the last two stages. In 2016 he switched to Drapac Professional Cycling . For the team, he achieved several top 10 placements in the mass sprints, including third place in the Tour de San Luis 2016 on the last stage or third place on the second stage of the Tour de Taiwan 2016 . At the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in Doha , Qatar , Lowndes finished sixth in the U23 road title race in October 2016.

In 2017 he sprinted himself third and second place on stages two and three of the Tour of Austria . In October he wore the white jersey for the junior competition at the Tour of Taihu Lake 2017 in China for a few days .

Lowndes rode for the Israel Cycling Academy and had joined the British Continental team JLT Condor for the coming 2018 season .

Eight days after his 23rd birthday, the Australian professional cyclist was killed in a training accident. He collided with a car while driving near his hometown of Bendigo in Victoria and succumbed to his injuries on December 22, 2017.
