Jaume Ferran i Clua
Jaume Ferran i Clua (born February 1, 1851 in Corbera d'Ebre , Tarragona , † November 22, 1929 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish doctor and bacteriologist.
The son of a village doctor completed his schooling in Tarragona and his medical degree at the University of Barcelona . In 1884 the Real Academia de Medicina awarded his memorandum Memoria sobre el parasitismo bacteriano and the city council of Barcelona sent him to Marseilles to study the cholera epidemic . In 1885, during the epidemic in Valencia, Ferrán carried out mass vaccinations with the cholera vaccine developed by im . His approach was initially controversial among contemporaries, but later the opinion prevailed that his action, regardless of some initial problems with the live vaccine, should be seen as a positive pioneering act.
