Javier Baraja Vegas (born August 24, 1980 in Valladolid ) is a Spanish football player . His older brother Rubén Baraja played for Valencia CF for many years .

Player career

The beginnings

Javier Baraja started his career in his hometown at Real Valladolid , for whose second team he initially played, before making two top division appearances in his first professional season in the A-team in 2001/2002. In the summer of 2002 Javier Baraja moved to the second division FC Getafe with whom he first achieved promotion to League 1 in the 2003/04 season. Since he could not assert himself in the two years in Getafe, he preferred a change to the B-team of FC Málaga , which was still playing in the Segunda División . There he became a regular player and played a key role in staying up.

Return to Valladolid

After the season Baraja returned to the meanwhile relegated Real Valladolid , where he played regularly from then on. In the 2006/07 season he achieved a sovereign promotion to the first division with his team. After three years, the club had to relegate to the Segunda División at the end of the 2009/10 season , where Baraja remained loyal to the club.
