Javier Fortuna (born July 7, 1990 in La Romana , Dominican Republic ) is a Dominican professional boxer and currently unbeaten regular WBA super featherweight world champion (current WBA superchampion is Takashi Uchiyama ). He is trained by Pablo Daniel Sarmiento .
Professional career
Fortuna made his professional debut against Ricardo Johnson in 2009. Two years later he beat Derrick Wilson and won the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Title and defended it against Geyci Lorenzo. In December 2012 he won a 12-round fight over the unbeaten Patrick Hyland (record 27-0-0) unanimously on points and won the interim title of the WBA.
He defended this belt against the Mexican Miguel Zamudio with a first-round knockout. At the end of May 2015 Fortuna was allowed to box for the vacant world championship belt of the WBA association. His opponent was in San Jose resident Bryan Vasquez (34-1-0 record). Fortuna was able to decide this battle by unanimous decision of the judges and thus became regular WBA world champion in super featherweight.
