Jayant Mistry (born August 29, 1966 in Leicester ) is a retired British wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Jayant Mistry started wheelchair tennis at the age of 19 and has since started in the paraplegic class .

He took part in a total of four Paralympic Games . In 1992 he only competed in the singles, where he failed in the round of 16 against the later gold medalist Randy Snow . In 1996 he was in the eighth finals in singles, while in doubles he made it to the quarterfinals. In the 2000 Games he was eliminated again in the round of 16 of the singles competition, in doubles he just missed a medal. In the bronze medal match, he and Simon Hatt lost to Scott Douglas and Stephen Welch . In his last games in 2004 in Athens , he reached the knockout stage for the fourth time in a row. In doubles he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters , Jayant Mistry was in the finals five times in doubles. In 2001 he lost with Tadeusz Kruszelnicki against Miroslav Brychta and Martin Legner . From 2003 to 2006 he was in the final four times in a row, always with Michaël Jeremiasz as a partner. They only won the 2005 final against Martin Legner and Satoshi Saida , to whom they were still defeated in 2003 and 2004.

In the world rankings he achieved his best placements with eighth place in singles on August 14, 2000 and second place in doubles on May 27, 2002.
