Stephen Welch (born July 28, 1972 in Fort Worth ) is an American wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Stephen Welch was diagnosed with Perthes disease at the age of eight . He starts in the paraplegic class and has participated in five Paralympic Games in his career .

In 1996 he won the silver medal in the individual competition after losing to Ricky Molier in the final. In doubles he won the gold medal with Vance Parmelly . In his second game in 2000 , he lost the final again, this time against David Hall . In the doubles competition he won the bronze medal with Scott Douglas . In the subsequent games in 2004 , 2008 and 2012 he remained without winning a medal. In 1996 and 2000 he was also part of the US team as a wheelchair basketball player .

In 1992, 1994 and 1999 Stephen Welch secured the title at the US Open . At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters he won the individual title in 1996. In addition, he was in the final in 1994, and again in 1997 and 2003. In doubles, he won the title twice: 2000 with Ricky Molier and 2002 with Kai Schrameyer . In the world rankings, he was in first place in both singles and doubles. He succeeded in singles for the first time on July 18, 1995, and in doubles on July 29, 1997.
