Mykola Makarowytsch Martschak (* December 23, 1903 July / January 5,  1904 reg. In Saliszi , Podolia Governorate , Russian Empire ; † September 23, 1938 in Kommunarka , Moscow Oblast , Soviet Union ) was a Ukrainian- Soviet politician.

biography

Martschak was born to a poor peasant family in Saliszi ( Ukrainian Залісці ) in what is now Khmelnyzkyj Oblast , Ukraine , where he lived until September 1922. Since 1921 he was a member of the KPR ( Bolsheviks ). From 1922 to 1923 he studied at the Institute for Educational Science in Kamjanez-Podilskyj and then worked until 1927 as a teacher in his home village and in the management of a company in nearby Dunajiwzi . From 1928 to 1931 Martschak studied at the Kiev University of Economics and at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Kiev . He then worked at the Kharkov tractor factory until autumn 1937 .

On October 8, 1937 he became Deputy Commissioner for Education of the USSR and from October 29, 1937, in succession to Mychajlo Bondarenko , who was arrested by the NKVD , until February 19, 1938, Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (Head of Government of the USSR) .

Martschak was arrested on June 20, 1938 on charges of belonging to an anti-Soviet Trotskyist organization, found guilty on September 22, 1938 by the Military College of the USSR Supreme Court and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out in Kommunarka near Moscow on the night of September 22nd to 23rd, 1938. On June 17, 1958, he was rehabilitated.
