David Robert Hall , OAM (born January 14, 1970 in Sydney ) is a former Australian wheelchair tennis player .

Career

David Hall was hit by a car on October 11, 1986 and lost both legs in the accident. After a long period of rehabilitation, he first worked as an employee in a police station.

He began his career as a professional wheelchair tennis player in 1993 and was active as such until his retirement in 2006. As early as 1994 he was the world number leader in doubles for the first time, a year later he was also at the top of the rankings in singles for the first time. Between 1995 and 2005 he was number one for a total of eight years. His results are clearly positive with 632: 111 in singles and 397: 89 in doubles. The Australian Open he won between 1995 and 2005 a total of nine, the British Open seven times. However, the Australian Open was only included in the maximum rating category from 2002. He won eight titles at the US Open between 1995 and 2004, and at the Japan Open between 1994 and 2005 he also won eight titles. He won the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in 2002 and 2004. From 1995 to 2000 he was a fellow of the Australian Institute of Sport .

The Paralympic Games David Hall participated four times. In 1992 he stayed in Barcelona without a medal before winning bronze singles and silver doubles in Atlanta in 1996 . In 2000 he won the gold medal in singles in Sydney , which was followed by another silver medal in doubles. In his last games in Athens , he won two medals with silver in singles and bronze in doubles.

David Hall received several honors for his constant success. For winning the gold medal in 2000, he received the Order of Australia medal in January 2001 . In 2010 he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame , and at the Australian Open 2015 he was inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame . In the same year he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
