Jaycee Hill (born October 28, 1931 in Big Sandy , Tennessee as Hillman Baker , † May 16, 2013 in Ravenna , Ohio ) was an American rockabilly musician.

Life

Born Hillman Baker, Baker soon moved to Cleveland , Ohio , shortly thereafter to Valley View , where he graduated from high school in 1949. With friend Joe Sway, he formed the duo Hill & Joes, the Valley Boys and began performing on radio and television in Cleveland.

After Elvis Presley made his first gig north of the Mason-Dixon Line , in Cleveland, Baker and Sway enthusiastically switched to rockabilly. On June 3, 1956, the two then recorded four tracks in the Audio Recording Studio in Cleveland, including Romp Stompin 'Boogie and A Love So Fine , which were released that same year on Epic as Jaycee Hill accompanied by Joe Sway . The other two tracks in this session, Sice My Baby Left Me and My Suspicious Heart , remained unreleased. After good record sales, producer Joe Sherman Hill invited to a session in New York City , this time without Sway, who had previously dropped out. Hill recorded other titles there with the best musicians in town, including Bump! and Crash , released by Epic in November 1956. Hill stayed with Epic until 1958 and played two more singles. After that he stayed connected to the music scene, appeared on radio and television and was able to record some successes as a songwriter.

In September 1958, another single Solong, Goodbye , came out on Argo, a sub-label of Chess Records . At MGM Records , Hill played his last recordings in 1959, which were released in the same year. However, until 1979 Hill did not know about this single. After his divorce, Hill quit music and worked in the tool industry in Cleveland, Ohio.
