Jean-Antoine de Mesmes

Jean-Antoine de Mesmes (born November 18, 1661 in Paris , † August 23, 1723 ibid) was a French lawyer and member of the Académie française .

life and work

Jean-Antoine de Mesmes was the son of Jean-Jacques de Mesmes (1630–1688), member of the Académie française, nephew of Jean-Antoine de Mesmes, called d'Avaux (1640–1709), with whom he should not be confused , and great-nephew of Claude de Mesmes (1595–1650). Like his father, he embarked on a legal career and worked at the Parlement in Paris, from 1712 as its chief president. He was interested in literature and frequented the court of the Duchess of Maine in Sceaux . There he belonged to the order of the bee . Without his own literary production, he was admitted to the Académie française (seat No. 22) in 1710. He was an officer in the Order of the Holy Spirit and a Knight of the Order of Michael . He died in 1723 at the age of 61.
