Jean-Baptiste Gastinne

Jean Baptiste Gastinne (born June 2, 1967 in Paris ) is a French historian and politician. He has been Mayor of Le Havre since March 30, 2019 .

biography

Professional career

As the owner of the Agrégation in history, he taught from 1993 to 1994 at the collège Jacques-Monod in Le Havre and then at the collège Raoul-Dufy between 1994 and 2010. In 2008 he received a doctorate in history from the University of Paris IV Sorbonne . He taught from 2010 at the lycée François I he in Le Havre.

In 2019 he broke off his professional career to become mayor of the city.

Political career

He has been a Republican (ex-UMP) member since 2002. Between 2002 and 2016 he was a member of the Parti Chrétien Démocrate .

In 2008 he was in the council elected by Le Havre. The mayor Antoine Rufenacht appointed him deputy for sport. In 2010 he was elected to the regional council.

In 2011, when Édouard Philippe became mayor, Jean-Baptiste Gastinne was appointed deputy mayor for the territorial development of the city of Le Havre. In 2014 he was elected Vice-President of the Communauté d'agglomération Havraise , which became the Communauté urbaine Le Havre Seine Métropole . Gastinne oversees the areas of economic development, tourism and higher education.

In the regional elections in 2015, he was chosen on Hervé Morin's list. He named him Vice President of the region and assigned him to take care of transport, the ports and the Seine Valley.

After Luc Lemonnier's resignation, Jean Baptiste Gastinne was elected Mayor on March 30, 2019 and President of the Communauté urbaine Le Havre Seine Métropole on April 4, 2019 .

Jean-Baptiste Gastinne has written two books dealing with the history of the city of Le Havre:
