Jean-Baptiste Joly (* 1951 in Paris ) is a Germanist , curator and cultural manager . He is also an honorary professor for theory and history at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . He has lived in Stuttgart since 1983 .

biography

Jean-Baptiste Joly studied from 1969 to 1976 German in Paris ( Sorbonne Nouvelle ) and Berlin ( Free University ). From 1976 to 1983 he taught German at a college near Paris . In 1983 he moved to Germany and was director of the Institut français Stuttgart until 1988 .

From January 1989 to April 2018 Joly was director of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Since 1998 he has held an honorary professorship for theory and history at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin.

He is also chairman of the Merkur Foundation and the Rudolf Eberle Foundation , as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart , a member of the board of Transcultural Exchange (Boston) and the board of Resartis , the worldwide network of international artist residencies . From 2010 to 2015 he was a (German) member of the Franco-German Cultural Council .

In 2013, the French ambassador Gourdault-Montagne awarded him the insignia of a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
