Maurice Gourdault-Montagne
Maurice Gourdault-Montagne (born November 16, 1953 ) is a French diplomat. After holding positions as French ambassador in Tokyo and London , he was ambassador of the French Republic to Germany from March 2011 to August 2014 . He is currently the ambassador to Beijing .
education
Maurice Gourdault-Montagne studied political science at the Grande école Sciences Po (degree: Diploma) and law at the University of Paris II (degree: Maîtrise en droit ) . He also learned German at the University of Paris IV and Hindi and Urdu at the Institut national des langues et civilizations orientales .
Career
He began his diplomatic career in 1979 in the Asia and Pacific Department of the French Foreign Ministry . In 1982 he was appointed First Embassy Secretary at the French Embassy in New Delhi . From 1984 he worked again in the Paris Foreign Ministry. Here he was special representative to the Secretary General until 1986 and then until 1988 specialist advisor to the Foreign Minister for the Parliament and the press. From 1988 to 1991 Gourdault-Montagne worked in Bonn at the French embassy as counselor for political affairs and Franco-German relations. This was followed by various activities in the Foreign Ministry, including as deputy head of the press, information and communications department and as deputy head of the personal advisory team to Foreign Minister Alain Juppé . When he was appointed French Prime Minister in 1995, Gourdault-Montagne became head of his personal advisory team. From 1998 to 2002 he was France's ambassador to Japan. Gourdault-Montagne then worked as foreign policy advisor to President Jacques Chirac and went to London in 2007, where he was France's ambassador to the United Kingdom until early 2011 . As the successor to Bernard de Faubournet de Montferrand , Maurice Gourdault-Montagne was the French ambassador to Germany from March 4, 2011 . On August 22, 2014, he became the French ambassador to China.
Awards
Maurice Gourdault-Montagne is an officer of the Legion of Honor and Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite . He was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit with a Star .
