Jean-Baptiste Quentin
Jean-Baptiste Quentin, le jeune (* before 1690 in Paris , † around 1742 there ) was a French composer of the Baroque .
Life
From 1718 Jean-Baptiste Quentin enjoyed a high reputation as a violinist at the Académie Royale de Musique , later the Paris Opera . From 1738 he played the quinte de violon in the grand chœur . Several contemporaries have praised him, including the Mercure de France and Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg .
His compositional oeuvre is quite extensive and includes mainly chamber music for violin and figured bass , including trio sonatas and quartet sonatas , the later works of which are suitable for orchestral scoring. Some of his solo sonatas demand a double and triple fingering technique, which was demanding for the time, and in the corresponding prints he gives information on bowing and dynamics. Bertin Quentin l'ainé († 1767), was the older brother, also a violinist in the Paris Opera Orchestra and a member of the Vingt-quatre Violons du Roy .
