Jean-Baptiste Weckerlin

Jean-Baptiste Weckerlin (born November 9, 1821 in Guebwiller , † May 20, 1910 in Trottsberg, near Guebwiller) was a French composer and music editor.

Weckerlin studied at the Paris Conservatory , among others with Jacques Fromental Halévy . From 1850 to 1885 he was conductor of the "Société Sainte-Cécile" and from 1863 archivist of the "Société des Compositeurs de Musique". From 1876 to 1909 he was head of the library at the Paris Conservatory.

Works

He composed a total of 20 works for the stage, operas, operettas and two operas in the Colmar dialect, as well as numerous choral works and songs. He was the editor of several compilations of French folk songs, he published a "Histoire de l'intrumentation" and wrote a catalog of the works in the library of the Conservatory.
