Jean-Baptiste de Voglie

Jean-Baptiste de Voglie also Giovani Bentivoglio (* 1723 ; † October 1777 ) was a French engineer, bridge and road builder and encyclopedist .

He came from a branch of the Bentivoglio family from Ferrara . In 1742 Jean de Voglie joined the Corps des Ponts et chaussées in France and was initially employed as an engineer, more precisely as sous-ingénieur of Jean-Rodolphe Perronet in the region of Lower Normandy in Alençon . In 1746 he first worked for the district administration of Paris ( Généralité de Paris ) and from 1751 he was appointed chief engineer of the district administration of Tours ( Ingénieur en chef de la généralité de Tours ). He took over this position from Mathieu Bayeux (* 1723) as General Inspector ( Inspecteur général ) in 1770, where he a. a. was responsible for the completion of the bridge Pont Wilson in Tours. De Voglie also helped build the bridge at Saumur . This bears the name of his colleague Louis-Alexandre de Cessart (1719–1806).

He was considered the designated successor to the first engineer and director Jean-Rodolphe Perronet , but de Voglie died prematurely. The architect François-Michel Lecreulx (1729-1812) was a student of Jean-Baptiste Voglie and Louis-Alexandre de Cessart.

De Voglie wrote an article on the construction of bridges ( Construction des ponts ) for the Encyclopédie by Denis Diderot and Jean-Baptiste le Rond d'Alembert .
