Jean-Claude Perez (born March 31, 1964 in Carcassonne ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 1997 .

Perez studied psychology in Toulouse and at that time began his political commitment to the Parti socialiste . In 1983 he became chairman of his party's youth organization in the Aude department . With his election as deputy mayor of Limoux in 1989, he received his first political office. In 1991 he rose within the party to become the first secretary of the PS in the Aude department. In the 1997 parliamentary elections , he entered the National Assembly in the first constituency of the department. He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in 2002, 2007 and 2012. Perez, who had been a member of the Carcassonne City Council since 2001, was elected mayor of the city in 2009.
