Jean-Henri de Coene
Jean-Henri de Coene (* 1798 in Nederbrakel ; † 1866 in Brussels ) was a Belgian painter of genre scenes and landscapes and an art teacher.
After 1816, De Coene was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David during his exile in Brussels, then of Joseph Paelinck . In 1820 he received the medal for the best drawing from a composition by Quentin Massys .
Jean-Henri de Coene painted mostly anecdotal and sentimental genre scenes, often in 17th century costumes. He painted landscapes more rarely. His most famous works appeared in the form of lithographs.
He dedicated a painting in 1842 to the Roman Catholic canon and founder of the order Peter Joseph Triest (1760–1836).
De Coene was appointed professor at the Brussels Academy.
Jean-Henri de Coene was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Belgian Leopold Order. He was also a member of the Legion of Honor .
