Miki Jacobsen

Bjarne Miki Jacobsen (born December 7, 1965 in Paamiut ) is a Greenlandic artist .

Life

Miki Jacobsen is the son of the Danish ceramist and teacher Jørgen Ib Jacobsen and the Greenlandic kindergarten teacher Abigail Dorthe Tabithe Marianne Schmidt. He comes from an artistic family and grew up in Sisimiut . From 1983 to 1992 he attended art schools in Nuuk and Copenhagen and was taught by Hans Lynge and Aka Høegh , among others . From 2000 to 2003 he studied in Halifax .

Miki Jacobsen made his debut as an artist with an exhibition in 1983 He works with graphics , watercolors , oil paintings , acrylic , carved from soapstone and masks . He later also started taking photographs , sound art and performances . His art combines traditional Greenlandic themes from Inuit culture and mythology with modern objects. As an actor, he had a supporting role in the film Eksperimentet . Miki Jacobsen has been designing postage stamps for POST Greenland since 1992 . Besides he has withHvalen og ørnen og de to små piger / Arfeq nattoralillu niviarsiarannguillu marluk (1996) and Kaassassuk (1999) published two picture books and illustrated several books by other authors. He has exhibited his art in Europe and North America.
