Nukardleĸ Najâraĸ Eva Høegh , known as Aka Høegh [ nuˈkaɬːɜq naˈjɑːʁɑq ˈeːva aˈka høˀ ] (born December 16, 1947 in Qullissat ) is a Greenlandic artist ( sculptor and painter ).

Life

Aka Høegh's interest in art was aroused at an early age by her parents. It was Jens Rosing who further increased this interest by providing her with professional drawing tools when she was still a child. Later she was tutored by Hans Lynge , who was not only active as a writer but also as a sculptor and painter. After attending school in Qullissat and high school in Aasiaat , she wrote to the Greenland Ministry in 1967 , hoping to receive a scholarship for professional art training that Aka, who came from a poorer family, could not afford. However, she was subsequently told that she should rather train as a nurse, which she finally began in Copenhagen , but broke off after a short time. However, she attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen for some time , where she was taught by Robert Jacobsen , Ole Christensen and Svend Wiig Hansen . In the early 1970s she was at the later art school in Nuuk , where she was allowed to teach from 1973 to 1976.

Her art was an important means of preserving the identity of the Greenlanders against the Danification of the country during this time . Bodil Kaalund made her art, which consisted largely of natural elements, also known in Denmark . She was part of the artist associations Ex Dania and Ante por la Vida . Aside from Greenland and Denmark, her works of art have also been exhibited in the Faroe Islands , Germany , the Netherlands , Israel , Alaska , Mexico , Bolivia , Iceland , Norway , Sweden , Finland , Latvia and Lithuania .
