Karl "Kâlêraĸ" Klemens Peter Heilmann (born May 10, 1892 in Nuuk ; † March 13, 1958 ) was a Greenlandic catechist , pastor and writer .

Life

Karl Heilmann was the son of the hunter and Udsteds administrator Jakob Søren Apollos Heilmann (1870–?) And his wife Henriette Karen Petronelle Berthelsen (1874–?). His sister was the second wife of Jonathan Petersen (1881–1961). On June 13, 1915 in Nuuk he married Kirstine Louise Dina Rosing (1894–?), Daughter of the hunter Ulrik Frederik Gert Rosing (1868–?) And his wife Maria Alhed Kreutzmann (1872–?), A daughter of Jens Kreutzmann (1828 -1899). Karl Heilmann was the grandfather of the artist Aka Høegh (* 1947).

Karl grew up in Nuuk and Narsaq near Nuuk . He was admitted to Grønland's seminarium at a young age in 1906 . After graduating in 1912, he and Gerhard Egede received further training in Denmark with Christian Ludwigs and Christian Rasmussen . In 1914 he was appointed head catechist and employed in Paamiut and Ilulissat . After his ordination in 1917 he was appointed pastor in Upernavik . He later served in Uummannaq and Qeqertarsuaq , and briefly in Maniitsoq and Aasiaat . In 1936 he was appointed pastor of Appat and only two years later moved to Qullissat . In 1944 he came to Nuuk.

Karl Heilmann published two theater plays in 1936, which are set around 1730 and deal with the first period of Christianization in Greenland. In 1942 he published the novel Piniartoĸ Sâmo nunarĸatailu , which deals with Greenlandic life in the residential area around 1900. He was an active debater and member of the Greenland Culture Council, which was established in the early 1950s. In 1952 he was made a knight of the Order of Dannebrog . In 1956 he contributed with a biography of Rasmus Berthelsen to the book Kalâtdlit taigdliortue tatdlimat / Fem grønlandske digtere . Karl Heilmann died in 1958 at the age of 65.
