Jean-Jacques De Gucht (born December 9, 1983 in Munich , Germany ) is a Belgian politician . He belongs to the Flemish liberal party Open Vlaamse Liberalen en Democrats (Open VLD) and is the son of the police judge Mireille Schreurs and the politician and lawyer Karel De Gucht .

He became a member of the Belgian Senate in 2007 and was elected to the Flemish Parliament in 2009. This placed him as a senator until 2010. 2013-2014 he held this office again. Since July 3, 2014, he has been a Senator for the Belgian local authorities , again seconded to the Flemish Parliament . On September 1, 2014, he was elected chairman of the Open VLD parliamentary group in the Senate.

In 2013, he voted in the Belgian Senate for the introduction of a law that since then also enables minors to actively euthanize at their own conscious request if they are fatally ill and palliative therapy for pain relief is not sufficiently effective. The law was first applied in September 2016.
