Jean-Marc Deshouillers (born September 12, 1946 in Paris ) is a French mathematician who deals with analytical number theory.

Deshouillers was at the 1972 University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie) at Charles Pisot (and Heini Halberstam ) PhD . He was a professor at the University of Bordeaux . In 1984/85, 1990/91 and again in 2009 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study .

In 1985 he showed with Ramachandran Balasubramanian and Francois Dress that in the case of fourth powers of Waring's problem the minimum number of powers to represent a natural number is 19. With Henryk Iwaniec in 1982 he expanded Kuznetsov's trace formula (which combines Kloostermann sums with Fourier coefficients of modular forms) and combined it with the Great Sieve.

In 1997, together with G. Effinger, Herman te Riele and D. Zinoviev, he solved the ternary Goldbach conjecture (every odd number greater than 5 can be represented as the sum of three prime numbers), assuming the generalized Riemann conjecture .

His doctoral students include Étienne Fouvry , Alain Plagne and Gérald Tenenbaum .
