Johann Matthäus Rehm

Johann Matthäus Re [h] m or Jean-Mathieu Rehm was a goldsmith in Augsburg in the 17th and 18th centuries .

Life

He was a master goldsmith in 1696 when he married Susanna Barbara Sprockhoff, the daughter of the goldsmith Paul Hillebrand Sprockhoff, for whom he must have worked as an apprentice. After Susanna's death he married again in 1707 and left Augsburg a little later. His name appears again in a goldsmith's list from 1709, but with the comment “is no longer here”.

Rehm 1628-1639 a family album out. Entries in it come from Regensburg , Altdorf , Krems and Augsburg . It is located in the Württemberg State Library, Stuttgart.

Maker's mark

Several of his works with maker's mark have survived, all with the stamp (BZ) "Augsburg for 1697 - 99":

  • Gold-plated spherical beaker with trains. Inscription v. 1703–1789, 14.3 cm, Collection of patriotic art monuments Stuttgart . (Status: 1922) Formerly the Seyffer Stuttgart collection, auction catalog 1887 No. 665.
  • Partly gold-plated ball beaker with trains and. Inscription v. 1705, 24.5 cm, Pfunds community shooting range . Exhibition Innsbruck 1893, cat.p. 77 no.36.
  • Partly gilded cup with embossed medallion heads and leaf tendrils, 8.6 cm. J. Jacobson in St. Petersburg 1885.
  • Partly gilded cup with three embossed medallion heads between leaf tendrils, 9.2 cm. Alexander von Günzburg in St. Petersburg 1885.
  • Partly gold-plated, conical beaker on a retracted base ring with a profiled lip rim. The wall with rich embossed acanthus work on a punched matt finish. Small later monogram engraving "SEA" under the edge of the lip. Tremulation stitch between brands. 16.3 cm, 357 g.
  • Partially gilded cup, with three embossed medallion heads between leaf tendrils, slightly flared upwards. Double row grooves under the edge of the boom. Tremolierstich. 9 cm, 127 g.
  • Object with a trademark, 28 × 21.5 cm, height 12 cm, Appenzell Innerrhoden .
