Jean-Pierre Tignol (* 1954 ) is a Belgian mathematician who studies algebra .

He received his doctorate in 1979 under Jacques Tits at the Université catholique de Louvain (Corps à involution de rang fini sur leur center et de caractéristique différente de 2). and is a professor there. He is the author of a textbook on Galois theory and co-author of a monograph on algebras with involution.

In 1996 he was invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematicians in Budapest (Algebras with involution and classical groups).
