Max-Albert Knus

Max-Albert Knus (born April 14, 1942 in Peseux NE ) is a Swiss mathematician who deals with algebra .

Knus studied at the ETH Zurich , where he obtained his doctorate in 1967 with Beno Eckmann (and K. Chandrasekharan ) (Sur une classe d'algébres filtrés). He was then a Batelle Fellow at ETH, Brandeis University and Chargé de Recherche at the University of Geneva . In 1969 he became assistant professor, in 1972 associate professor and in 1979 professor at the ETH Zurich. From 1989 to 1991 he was head of the mathematics faculty there. In 2007 he retired.

He dealt with quadratic forms, algebraic groups, Galois cohomology and algebra theory.

From 1997 he was a member of the National Research Council of Switzerland.
