Jean-Pierre Warnier

Jean-Pierre Warnier (* 1939 in France ) is a French ethnologist and university professor .

Life

Warnier taught ethnology in Nigeria and Cameroon before he went to the University of Paris V (Université Paris-René Descartes) as a professor of ethnology in 1985 . Today (2011) he is retired and researcher at the Center d'Études africaines (Ceaf) in Paris, a research center of the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE), one of the grandes écoles in France.

Warnier has been researching economic and political history in the Cameroon grasslands since 1972, but later turned to the phenomenon of material culture as an instrument of rule.
