Sjællandsbroen ( German Seeland Bridge ) is a two-section, four-lane road bridge in Copenhagen that connects the Danish islands of Zealand and Amager . The bridge serves as access to the Amagermotorvejen motorway , from which both the south of Zealand and via Øresundsmotorvejen and over the Öresund Bridge Malmö in Sweden can be reached. From Amager, the Sjællandsbroen leads from a dam over a 30-meter-long bascule bridge , which runs over an artificial island in Sluseløbet (lock run) towards Zealand.
history
When the volume of traffic on the Langebro and Knippelsbro bridges further north rose rapidly, the need arose in the 1950s to build a third bridge that connects Copenhagen with Amager. It also served as a diversion for traffic from the center and as a better connection between Amager and the south of Zealand. The construction work started in 1957 was delayed by six months, so that the building could not be opened until March 1, 1959 by the Minister for Public Works Kai Lindberg .
In connection with the Øresund connection , a railway bridge was completed around a hundred meters further south in 1998. Since this only has a clearance height of 3 meters, which corresponds to the clearance height of the Sjællandsbroen with closed flaps, the flaps of the Sjællandsbroen have not been opened since then.
In 2007 the authority Kulturarvsstyrelsen decided to put the control tower (Manøvrehuset) designed by Niels Rohweder under a preservation order.
