Jean Baptiste Louis d'Audebert de Férussac

Baron Jean Baptiste Louis d'Audebert de Férussac (born June 30, 1745 in Clérac , † July 20, 1815 in the Castle de la Garde near Lauzerte ) was a French officer and malacologist .

As with his son, the spelling of the surname varies (also d'Audibert, d'Audebard, d'Audeberd).

He was the son of Joseph d'Audebard de Férussac (1676-1753), Seigneur de Jouatas, was destined for the military career and brought it there to lieutenant colonel (Lieutenant-Colonel) of the artillery. In 1808 he took his leave of the military. He is known as a naturalist who dealt in particular with mollusks . His son André Étienne d'Audebert de Férussac continued his work as a malacologist and published in particular the Histoire naturelle des Mollusques he had started and on which he had worked for decades. It appeared in four volumes from 1819 to 1832.

He was a Knight of the Order of St. Louis and the Order of St. Lazaire and a member of the Society of Sciences and Arts in Montauban .
