Jean Chacornac

Jean Chacornac (born June 21, 1823 in Lyon , † September 23, 1873 in Lyon) was a French astronomer .

He worked at the observatories of Marseille and from 1854 Paris .

He created several high-quality star maps , including the Atlas ecliptique , and discovered six asteroids (see list of asteroids ) and the NGC object numbered 1988 in the constellation Taurus .

In honor of Chacornac, the asteroid (1622) Chacornac and the lunar crater Chacornac were named after him.
