Quotes

  • "So the soul must contemplate before it loves, it must work before it rests, seek before it possesses. If, however, after powerful enlightenments, the spirit no longer finds anything with which to contemplate, then the soul should go to prayer overlooked the impression, then she should sigh incessantly for the divine bridegroom, whose worth she recognized, whose goodness she tasted. " (Jean Crasset, The different types of prayer , in: Instructions for inner prayer , Verlag Butzon and Bercker, Kevelaer, 1953)
  • "Poverty is eloquent; in order to be able to pray well, one must understand one's misery." (Jean Crasset, What constitution one should have for prayer , in: Instructions for inner prayer , Verlag Butzon and Bercker, Kevelaer, 1953)
  • "In addition to oral prayer, there are seven degrees or forms of inner prayer: the prayer of contemplation, grace, silence, unity, abandonment, transformation, calm." (Jean Crasset, The different types of prayer , in: Instructions for inner prayer , Verlag Butzon and Bercker, Kevelaer, 1953)
