Jean Baptiste Discart (born October 3, 1855 in Modena , † January 1, 1944 in Paris ) was a French orientalist painter.

Life

Discart began his painting studies in 1873 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Anselm Feuerbach . His fellow students included u. a. Carl von Merode and Ludwig Deutsch .

After Feuerbach's resignation, Leopold Carl Müller became his successor. Discart, Merode and Deutsch wanted to continue their painting studies with Müller, but were rejected. Discart went to Paris around 1884 with Ludwig Deutsch , where both of them devoted themselves to the painting of Orientalism. Discart showed his works at the Paris salons. He spent a few years in Tangier ; the sketches made there provided inspiration for later works made after his return to Paris.
