Ludwig German
Ludwig Deutsch (born May 13, 1855 in Vienna , † April 9, 1935 in Paris ) was an Austrian orientalist painter who worked in Paris.
Life
Ludwig Deutsch was the son of the later kk court changer Ignaz Deutsch and Charlotte Löwit. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1872 to 1875 under Anselm Feuerbach and from 1876 under Leopold Carl Müller .
In 1878 he moved to Paris, where he continued his studies with Jean-Paul Laurens . In Paris he was friends with the Austrian orientalist Rudolf Ernst . German also specialized in the oriental milieu. He set up his own studio in Paris on Rue Le Pelletier.
In 1886 Deutsch made his first trip to Egypt and in 1890 his second . During his stay in Egypt, Deutsch collected many sketches and photographs that he later used as a base for oil paintings in his Paris studio.
During the First World War , German had to leave France and probably spent the war time in North Africa .
After the war, Deutsch received French citizenship in 1919 and began writing his name as Louis Deutsch .
