Jean Leguay

Jean Leguay (born November 29, 1909 in Chevreuse ; † July 5, 1989 ) was a high-ranking French official who was involved in the deportation of Jews to France during the Second World War during the German occupation of France .

Life

Leguay was prefect and delegate of the general secretary of the police of the Vichy government in the occupied zone from April 1942 to the end of 1943 , as such he was the deputy of René Bousquets . He was involved in the organization of the raids on the Jews in the occupied territory of France and a negotiating partner for the German SS officers in France.

After the war, Leguay was an industrialist in the US and later president of various chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Great Britain and France.

In 1979 he was charged with crimes against humanity for his role in organizing the Rafle du Vélodrome d'Hiver on July 16-17, 1942. Because the trial was delayed for ten years, Leguay died before the trial began.
