Jean Mazuel (father)

Jean Mazuel (* 1568 in Paris ; † 1616 there ) was a French violinist . He was the son of Guillaume Mazuel . Jean Mazuel was a member of the French family of musicians Mazuel .

life and work

Mazuel is recorded as an orchestral musician in Paris in 1594. In 1601 he became "violon du roi" (violinist of the king). In 1602 Mazuel signed a cooperation agreement with 11 other "violons du roi" for a term of 40 years.

Jean Mazuel was, so to speak, the “link” between the Mazuel and Molière families : he was the music teacher of Agnès Mazuel , the grandmother of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin , alias Molière , he was and was the godfather of Guillaume Poquelin , an uncle of Molière the best man of Jeanne Poquelin , an aunt of Molière. After Jean Mazuel's death , Jeanne Poquelin taught his children.
