Jean Mieg-Koechlin (born September 6, 1819 in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines , † July 4, 1904 in Mulhouse ) was an industrialist and politician.

Life

Jean Mieg-Koechlin was part of the Alsatian industrial family Mieg . His parents were the industrialist Charles Mieg (January 20, 1790 - February 29, 1868) and his wife Julie, née Blech (January 24, 1798 - November 24, 1859). After his marriage to Caroline Koechlin on February 28, 1848, he called himself Mieg-Koechlin. Caroline Koechlin was the daughter of the industrialist Joseph Koechlin-Schlumberger , who later also became mayor of Mulhouse. The marriage resulted in 8 children. Jean Mieg-Koechlin was an industrialist in Mulhouse.

politics

From September 1872 to May 1887 Jean Mieg-Koechlin was mayor of Mulhouse. He was the last mayor to be elected by the city council under French law and was regarded as the representative of the city's Protestant notables . He was succeeded as mayor by Karl Hack . Mieg-Koechlin remained as a member of the city council until 1902. He belonged to the District Assembly of Upper Alsace as President and to the State Committee of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine .
