Jean Weijts

Jean Weijts (born April 10, 1960 in Schoten ; † August 1, 2011 in Hechtel ) was a Belgian athlete and specialist in long distances.

Career

As an individual athlete, his outstanding results include winning the New Year's Eve run from Werl to Soest five times between 1984 and 1991. Together with the German Ansgar Varnhagen, he is one of the “kings” of this run. His winning time from 1986 with 43:33 minutes is unmatched so far.

Jean Weijts lived in Soest from 1979 to 1992 and began his career at the Marathon Soest running club, where he still holds five club records today.
