The New Year's Eve run from Werl to Soest is a fun run and with around 6000 participants it is the largest New Year’s run in Germany. The run was launched in 1982 by the Westfalenpost . It leads over the former Bundesstraße 1 from the Werler Stadthalle to the Soest market square.

organization

The route length is 15 kilometers (measured according to the guidelines of the DLV ). Only in the first two years (1982 and 1983) were only 14.6 kilometers run.

The kings of the New Year's Eve run are Sigrid Wulsch ( LG Menden ) with seven and the men Jean Weijts and Ansgar Varnhagen ( LG Olympia Dortmund ) with five wins each.

On December 31, 2018, Fabienne Amrhein and Amanal Petros were able to successfully defend their titles from the previous year. 2019 was the 38th run of the run and Laura Hottenrott improved the course record for women to 51:00 min.
