Jean (Johann) Winterich (born February 10, 1886 in Speicher near Bitburg , † June 27, 1931 in Berlin ) was a German politician.

life and work

Born the son of a house painter , Jean Winterich did an apprenticeship as a miller from 1900 to 1903, then he became a metal worker. Jean Winterich was politically active from an early age. Even before the First World War he was a member of the free trade unions . In 1908 he became a member of the German Metal Workers' Association (DMV) and since 1909 of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). During the First World War he fought in a group of the Spartakusbund against the government. In 1917 he became a member of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD). Between 1918 and 1922 he took an active part in the implementation of many large strikes in the Rhineland , particularly in Cologne . When the USPD split up at the end of 1920, he and many others joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) . From 1923 he was a full-time secretary of the KPD in the Middle Rhine district, based in Cologne. From October 1923 to April 1924 he was Reichskurierdienstleiter at the Central Committee of the KPD. In 1924 he became the organizational manager of the Middle Rhine district. In the 2nd electoral term (1924–1928) and the 3rd electoral term (1928–1932) he was a member of the Prussian state parliament , to which he belonged until his death. From 1927 until his death in 1931 he was also a member of the Central Committee of the KPD . The funeral service and the burial of the urn took place on July 4, 1931 in Cologne.
