Jeanne Arland Peterson (* 1921 in Minneapolis ; † June 23, 2013 in Eden Prairie ) was an American jazz pianist and singer who was active in the music scene in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area .

Live and act

Jeanne Arland came from a musical family and began singing in a band with her brother when she was 15. At the same time she was playing scores on the piano in a music shop; this was followed by appearances in ballrooms and night clubs during school days. In 1938 she performed in the Twin Cities at Club Coconut Grove ; she was then vocalist for the radio station WCCO for two decades , accompanied by her husband Willard O. "Willie" Peterson (1943–1969), who directed the station's orchestra. After his death in 1969 she took over his post as organist for the Minnesota Twins at Met Stadium in Bloomington.

For the benefit of her family, she limited her career for much of her life to appearances in Minnesota, which diminished her options for success. She was friends with singer Peggy Lee and performed with stars like Bob Hope , Perry Como and Roy Eldridge . One of the highlights of her career was a concert at Met Stadium in 1958 as a singer in a George Gershwin program for the Minneapolis Symphony , conducted by Paul Whiteman . In 1988 she toured the Soviet Union with the women's band Women Who Cook . She also played with Doc Severinsen , Diahann Carroll , Dottie Dodgion , Mary Fettig , Mary Osborne , Marian McPartland and in 1993 with the Minnesota Orchestra; she also toured the USA and Europe. Peterson released six albums under his own name, most recently 88 Grand (2009). All of her five children became professional musicians with whom she performed in her later years. She gave her last concert in December 2012 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts . She received several awards including the Arts Midwest Jazz Masters in 1998 and induction into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame .
