Jechiel ben Joseph
Jechiel ben Josef von Paris (born at the end of the 12th century in Meaux ; died around 1286 in Palestine ) was a Talmudist and Tosafist from northern France.
Life
He was a student of Rabbi Juda ben Isaak Messer Leon and his successor as Rosh Jeschiva of Paris. Many Tosafot come from him . He became known as an opponent of Nikolaus Donin on the occasion of the Paris Talmud disputation in 1240, which led to the first great burning of the Talmud . He remained head of the Paris school. Around 1260 he emigrated with some of his followers to Israel and settled in Akko , where he founded the Talmud school Midrash ha-Gadol de-Paris .
