Joseph Verhelst

Joseph Verhelst (born November 27, 1932 in Kuurne , Belgium ; † December 5, 2014 ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

As an amateur , he won the Karlovy Vary - Dresden stage of the International Peace Tour in 1955 . Immediately after his stage victory, he named a lion cub from the Dresden Zoo with the name Joseph. He was a professional from 1955 to 1957.

He started his career with the Spanish team Faema - Guerra and moved to the Libertas - Huret team (Belgium) in the same year .

With the Belgian team Faema - Guerra he ended his cycling career the following year.
